Saving Pond Hockey

Svante, a father of two, lives in Helsinki. Every monday he plays pond hockey with his friends on an outdoor rink nearby his home. One of his friends is Steve Baynes, a native canadian. Both of them share the deep love for the game. But over the years of playing they realized that the hockey season got shorter and shorter. Due to the climate change the winters in Finland are generally getting warmer and shorter, like everywhere on the planet. But Svante and Steve didn’t just want to ’sit on the bench‘ and do nothing. Instead they founded a NGO called ‚Save Pond Hockey‘. They organize tournaments throughout Finland to raise the awareness for climate change and the huge threat it is – and hockey is their language. They want to show people why it is important to save the sport. And on a bigger scale they want to do their part in the fight against climate change.
